Christ Church After School (CCAS) is a ministry of Christ United Methodist Church, and, as such, its mission, vision, and values are based on the Christian religion and Methodist tradition. We believe that Christ Church After School, first and foremost, should be a place of belonging. It is our prayer that each child, inclusive of gender, race, nationality, age, learning differences, physical differences, religion, or any other marker of difference, might feel safe and included within the context of CCAS. We welcome children who do not share our faith background and assure that we will treat each child with dignity and respect.
CCAS provides care to elementary-aged students from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Our program primarily serves students from Scroggs Elementary because it is within walking distance of the church.
A week at Christ Church After School looks like:
Mondays: Distance learning day! There are many places that offer “distance learning” programs for kids. There are 68 National Parks in the US plus monuments and memorials, zoos and museums. It’s our plan to “visit” as many places as we can. Sometimes we even do a live chat right in the classroom!
Tuesdays: Science, Crafts, Music, and Holiday Celebrations.
Wednesdays: Games with host-with-the most, Pastor Lee! Inside or outside, large and small. Who would have thought Pool Noodles were an educational Tool?!
Thursdays: Art Day. Not just MAKING art but we’re learning about some of the greatest artists of all time. We include paintings and other works found at the North Carolina Museum of Art so after a lesson parents can take their kids to the museum to see the real thing.
Fridays: Movie Day! Come in and smell the popcorn.
