Christmas Eve at CUMC

This Christmas Eve, Christ UMC will have 4 different services.

  • 10 a.m. Lessons and Carols — A shorter service that is meant to be mixed and matched with the other services in the day. Come sing some songs, hear some Bible stories, and experience the wonder of Christmas!

  • 3 p.m. Children/Family Service (recommended for families with young children) — This service will include a long-form interactive children’s sermon, a live nativity, a candle/glowstick lighting, and a children’s play area!

  • 5 p.m. Christmas on the Green — This service will take place on the Southern Village Green and is a great way for us to connect with the broader community. If you are new among us this might be a great way to see what CUMC is all about!

  • 7 p.m. Traditional Service — This will likely go past some bedtimes, but it is quite a spectacle. If you’re family wants to see the full choir, assemblage of musicians, and candle lighting, this is the place for you!

We hope to see you there!

Children’s Ministry at CUMC

Trying out a new church, or coming back to church after a long time, can be really daunting, especially if you have kids! How do you know which service to attend? Will your kids stay with you or do their own thing? Is it okay if they start dancing in the aisles or will everyone stare at you?

Here are some quick answers to your questions! If you have more detailed questions or just want to chat, reach out to Pastor Brandon at bmiller@christmethodist.org.

Q: Which service should I attend?

For first time families, we typically recommend attending our 9 a.m. Acoustic service. This service has a lot more children and young families, and we also provide a dedicated “Children’s Church” during service. Some families prefer the worship style of the 11 a.m. Traditional service, and you are more than welcome to join this service as well, but there is no “Children’s Church”.

Q: Will my children stay with me or do their own thing?

Both! We believe it’s important for children to worship with their family AND we think it’s important to provide age-appropriate formation. The way we fit these pieces together is that, at the 9 a.m. service, children will start out with you in service. We’ll sing a couple of songs, recite a Psalm, and then they will hear a Children’s Sermon. After the Children’s Sermon, the children are invited to come across the hall with our Children’s Leaders and receive age-appropriate instruction on the day’s Bible story. Then, before communion, they will rejoin your family, just in time for you to receive communion together as a family.

Q: Is nursery care available?

As a matter of fact it is! For both services and the formation hour, Ms. Bevin leads our nursery. Children 4 and under are welcome to jump in and out at any time. To access the nursery, walk past the sanctuary and into the Preschool Hallway. It will be on your left.

Q: Do you have a separate “Sunday School” time?

At 10 a.m., after our Acoustic service, we have a “formation hour” for the whole church. During this time, Christ Church Kids will be hosting different clubs/interest groups for our children in Ascension Hall across from the sanctuary. These clubs range from Art Club to Children’s Choir to Kids on a Mission to Pageant Practice. Not every club will interest every child, but our hope is that your child will be interested in one of these groups and come join us! For a full schedule, check below! If you cannot make it to the start date or the first practice, you are still welcome to jump in and join! While these clubs are happening, we have a hospitality station open for our parents and caregivers to hang out and enjoy each others’ company.

Q: What ages are allowed to participate?

Children as young as 4 are welcome to come join us in “Children’s Church” and during our 10 a.m, group time. Younger children are typically more comfortable in the nursery. Children who have graduated from 5th grade are usually ready to stay with you during service, and they are invited to participate in our Youth programming on Sunday nights!

I hope that can answer your questions, and I hope to meet you on one of these Sundays! Come say hi and let me know you read this section for a free high five! -Pastor Brandon

becoming saints together

For every ministry of the church, the focus of our year together at CUMC is on becoming saints together. This means engaging in spiritual practices that make us more like Jesus as individuals and as a community. As part of this initiative, we will be posting resources for each series here on the website! So far we have gone through “prayer” and “Bible study” together. Click the logos below to access resources for prayer and scripture. Check back soon for more resources as we go through them together!
